Out For Democracy: DNC: You Thought it Couldn't Get Worse

May 10, 2006

Howard Dean recently appeared on Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network. He told the audience “The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says that marriage is between a man and a woman. That's what it says.”

No Howard, that is most certainly NOT what the 2004 Platform says. Is this a baldface lie to pander to the religious right? I'd like to give Dean the benefit of the doubt, but some Democratic insiders who have corrected Dean on this very point in the past say yes.

Here's what the 2004 Democratic Platform actually says:

"We support full inclusion of gay and lesbian families in the life of our nation and seek equal responsibilities, benefits, and protections for these families. In our country, marriage has been definited at the state level for 200 years, and we believe it should continue to be defined there. We repudiate President Bush's divisive effort to politicize the Constitution by pursuing a Federal Marriage Amendment." Our goal is to bring Americans together, not drive them apart."

The status of the LGBT community in the DNC has gone from troubling in May 2005, to disappointing in February 2006, to bad in May 2006. Currently the situation is just shocking, confusing, and downright bizarre, like really bad reality television. But unlike tv, in this show our lives, our families, and our futures are on the line. We need to know whether or not Howard Dean and the DNC have our back, and we need to know soon.

The 700 Club!? Is this for real!?

You know, when Rick Santorum went on the 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart', he clearly was out of his element. I hate the guy, but at least he had the balls to stand his ground with Jon Stewart and state his positions clearly.

But when Howard Dean goes on Pat Robertson's 700 Club he can't do the same? He can't be a man and stand up for what he believes in? You can't say something different to the evangelicals than you say to us and expect nobody to notice? I think Dean has become like the rest of the two-faced political insiders in DC.

Where's the Howard Dean from the "Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party" ? ? ?

One MAN + One WOMAN = One MARRIAGE! Anything else is ....well, QUEER!

Say it a'int sooooo. Has H. Dean lost his mind to money also.....?????????????????? He knows the far right doesn't give a shit about his views.

This is horrifying. Does he think the fundies who watch Robertson can be won over by throwing gays under the bus? I'm really disappointed. When will the Dems wake the f*ck up?

If this is the worst thing Howard Dean has said, he looks like a saint with a brightly glowing halo compared with anyone the Republicans have to offer.

We all know the Democrats, including Howard Dean fully support Gay Rights.

If you don't like it, then log on to DNC.org and voice your opinion.

Then send them some money, because every dollar you don't contribute to the Democrats is another dollar for the Republicans.

Kevin,

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

You can support Democrats without supporting the DNC.

I question whether this is the time to be financially rewarding the DNC, and I hope you do as well.

If you want to support Democrats, you can also support your local party if it is LGBT friendly, or support the Stonewall Democrats. You can make a donation (or volunteer your time) for a kick-ass local LGBT candidate like Dana Beyer (www.danabeyer.com) or any of the Democrats listed on the Victory Fund website (www.victoryfund.org). All of these things would help the Democratic cause.

Dem Platform:

We support full inclusion of gay and lesbian families in the life of our nation and seek equal responsibilities, benefits, and protections for these families. In our country, marriage has been defined at the state level for 200 years, and we believe it should continue to be defined there. We repudiate President Bush's divisive effort to politicize the Constitution by pursuing a "Federal Marriage Amendment." Our goal is to bring Americans together, not drive them apart.

What Dean is quoted as saying:

He added, “The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says that marriage is between a man and a woman. That's what it says. I think where we may take exception with some religious leaders is that we believe in inclusion, that everybody deserves to live with dignity and respect, and that equal rights under the law are important.”

I am sick of this made up farce... If the Dem GLBT is happier holding fundraiser for Casey then be my guest... but don't come crying to the rest of the Democratic base when he cuts you out of the Constitution.

Enjoy your Dean bashing....

Dean was only saying out loud what the democrat leadership say in private. "The GLBT is an endless ATM of votes and money - but don't you DARE make any demands! Stay in the closet, faggots!" They'll make pretty noises while taking your cash - and you'll get NOTHING for it.

So what exactly is the difference again between a Out Democrat and a Log Cabin Republican?
