Who will be the next Mayor of the District of Columbia? Democratic primary candidates moved one step closer to the finish line last week when they all attended the Stein Democrats 2006 Mayoral Forum. Some great pictures of the event are posted here on the Stein Democrats website. (for those who may not know, Stein Democrats is the local Stonewall Democrats Chapter in DC).
All five candidates have strong positions on issues important to the LGBT community, and the three candidates on currently on the city council (Linda Cropp, Adrian Fenty, and Vincent Orange) all have solid voting records. Only two of the five candidates, however, came out in full support of Marriage Equality in the District.
Adrian Fenty and Marie Johns support Marriage Equality in the District without condition, while the remaining three candidates cited concerns about potential repurcusions from a Republican Congress.
Read more about this forum in Metro Weekly. And Kudos to Stein Democrats for throwing such an important and succesful event.
